Wildlife One-Offs
Using night-cam images of animals to make individual prints

These trail cam snapshots capture wildlife going about their day-to-day, sometimes aware of the camera that is documenting them and sometimes not. Sourced from a hunting shop’s Facebook page, these photos give the most fear-inducing humans a glimpse into what the forest is like with the most minimal human presence. The circumstance of these photos is one that is laden with complex ironies.

I was initially drawn to how strangely the animals seem to be behaving. In some photos, the creatures seem humorous, while others are quite dark. The monotype process allows for another layer of ambiguity on top of an already unsettled set of images. In many of the prints, a white eye or stripe is all that defines the creature from the background on which it sits.
